Around Kirkland With My Sister

One evening we had dinner at Le Grand Bistro American in Carillon Point, Kirkland.
We overlooked the marina while we ate.
Shipyards used to be on this site. At the height of World War II, 9,000 people were employed there. Eventually the shipyards closed and the land was later redeveloped into offices, shops, apartments, and condos.

Another evening we bought hamburgers at Burgermaster
and had a picnic at Houghton Beach Park.

We introduced Jan to a few things that were new to her - gelato
Tofu - Jan & Joe have had a teasing thing going on for years about tofu. She'd never tried it. Whenever we brought food to a family gathering, she wanted to make sure we hadn't slipped tofu into it. We showed her Cafe Happy, one of our favorite places to eat (we live just a 10 minute walk up the street in this photo). She insisted she really wanted to try it.
So we had lunch at Cafe Happy - shared two entrees - stir fried vegetables with fresh tofu (didn't like that texture) and tofu chicken and broccoli (very doable). Thanks for being a good sport Jan!
We had fun showing Jan many of the public art pieces in Kirkland. This is a favorite. Had to have more gelato. Jan was a wonderful excuse to get a gelato treat almost every day (had to skip one day because we were just too full from a big dinner - didn't plan that very well). Jan said one of our goals was to fill up another "frequent flyer" card from the gelato store. We accomplished our goal. Thanks for helping with that Jan.
Love you!
