Language of the Heart

"Occasionally in life there are those moments of unutterable fulfillment which cannot be completely explained by those symbols called words. Their meanings can only be articulated by the inaudible language of the heart. "
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Be Still

Recently I was reminded of the scriptures about “be still” so we can connect with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. Exodus 14: 13

Be still, and know that I am God ….Psalm 46: 10

Therefore, let your hearts be comforted concerning Zion; for all flesh is in mine hands; be still and know that I am God. Doctrine and Covenants 101: 16

It’s easy for me to get caught up in the busyness of my to do list and not make time to stop and ponder the things of God. I have to be careful that even my prayers and scripture study don’t become things to check off on my to do list instead of times to connect with God.

Helping with the Work

The Lord speaking about helping with His work - "And no one can assist in this work except he shall be humble and full of love, having faith, hope, and charity, being temperate in all things, whatsoever shall be entrusted to his care.

Behold, I am the light and the life of the world, that speak these words, therefore give heed with your might, and then you are calledDoctrine and Covenants 12: 8-9

This is a great list of personal characteristics. I like the Lord's counsel to "give heed with your might. He needs committed, working disciples.

Prayer

Learning to communicate with God is a lot of work but very rewarding. It took years of kneeling and talking before I felt like it was a two way conversation. Communication with anyone takes practice, diligence, and a willingness to keep trying even when I feel I'm not connecting very well.

I like David Bednar’s thoughts about prayer.

-Prayer becomes more meaningful as we counsel with the Lord in all our doings

-Prayer becomes more meaningful as we express heartfelt gratitude.

-Prayer becomes more meaningful as we pray for others with real intent and a sincere heart.

*********

“Your prayer can take many forms. It can be sung in a hymn, or whispered, or even thought. It can be as short as one word—’help!’—or it could be as long as Enos’s prayer that lasted all night and all day.

“The important thing to remember is to pray often, talk to Heavenly Father, seek his counsel so that he can guide you. When you draw near to Heavenly Father in prayer, he will draw near to you. You need never feel alone again.”    Dwan J. Young

No One Has to Travel Alone

We may not be able to alter the journey, but we can make sure no one walks it alone. .. we can walk together and share the load. We can lift [each other] as Jesus Christ lifted us.” Jeffrey Holland

Be the One

 ONE

One tree can start a forest
One smile can begin a friendship
One hand can lift a soul
One word can frame the goal
One candle can wipe out darkness
One laugh can conquer bloom
One hope can raise our spirits
One touch can show you care
One life can make a difference
Be that one today!
