Pressing Forward

If we use the formula below, pressing forward,
no matter the circumstances, is possible
Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.  2 Nephi 31: 20
steadfastness in Christ
brightness of hope
love of God and of all men [and women]
feasting on the word of Christ
endure to the end
Ye shall have eternal life

Fun in Rough Water?

This was a cold day and the wind was creating some big waves on the lake. Most of the ducks were sitting it out on the beach. A few hardy ducks rode the waves. I watched for a while. Were they riding the waves for fun?

Remember When?

Signboard outside Kirkland's tobacco shop
Cigar boxes for $7 or 2 for $10

Getting ready for the new elementary school year always involved a trip to Max Cannon's cigar store on Main Street in London. He gave us cigar boxes for the school supplies we kept in our desks at school. They were just the right size. I wonder how many boxes Mr. Cannon gave away every year.

Cannon owned the business for about 45 years. After the store closed, the contents were donated to the Madison County Historical Society and the shop was recreated at the museum. Pauline Persing wrote about this on her blog. Check it out here. In her blog post there's a picture of newspaper boys and the turkeys they received from Mr. Cannon. Uncle David Holton is one of those boys.

Phyllis Doyle Burns wrote a poem about her cigar box and its school supplies. Click here

I wonder - Did Dad buy his pipes and tobacco at Cannon's? I don't remember his going there.

A New Year - A New Journal

What's in store for me and our family in 2020?
What will be recorded in my heart, mind, and in my journal?

Two walks today - it felt almost like Spring

many people walking around in the evening

New Year's Day in Kirkland

New Year's Day
Cow & Coyote ready for the New Year
It was a beautiful day -
many people were at the parks I walked through
People were even eating outside
I hope people keep their Christmas lights up for a while
