Sunshine Hymns

On a rainy Sunday we sang two hymns about sunshine. Don't know if that was a deliberate choice on the part of the person who selected the music or just coincidence :)

Scattering sunshine might sound a bit trite - but it can make a huge difference in someone's life.
************

In a world where sorrow
Ever will be known,
Where are found the needy
And the sad and lone,
How much joy and comfort
You can all bestow,
If you scatter sunshine
Ev'rywhere you go.

(Chorus)
Scatter sunshine all along your way.
Cheer and bless and brighten
Ev'ry passing day.
Scatter sunshine all along your way.
Cheer and bless and brighten
Ev'ry passing day.

Slightest actions often
Meet the sorest needs,
For the world wants daily
Little kindly deeds.
Oh, what care and sorrow
You may help remove,
With your songs and courage,
Sympathy and love.

................

(Chorus)
Scatter sunshine all along your way.
Cheer and bless and brighten
Ev'ry passing day.
Scatter sunshine all along your way.
Cheer and bless and brighten
Ev'ry passing day.                                    Text: Lanta Wilson Smith; Music: Edwin O. Excell, 1851-1921

Here's another wonderful hymn, whether it is rainy or sunny! Having Jesus in our lives can brighten our total beings - and then warm and light those around us.

There Is Sunshine in My Soul Today

There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my light.

[Chorus]
Oh, there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine
When the peaceful happy moments roll.
When Jesus shows his smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.
............

There is springtime in my soul today,
For when the Lord is near,
The dove of peace sings in my heart,
The flow’rs of grace appear.

[Chorus]
Oh, there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine
When the peaceful happy moments roll.
When Jesus shows his smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.
............

Text: Eliza E. Hewitt, 1851–1920; Music: John R. Sweney, 1837–1899

Joe's Grandmother Neely, Mamaw, sang "You Are My Sunshine" to Joe. It's a memory that warms his whole being all these decades later. I gave this singing pillow to Joe years ago. It still plays "You Are My Sunshine."

Bringing light into the lives of others. That's what Christ does. I want to be the kind of person who "scatters" sunshine and has sunshine in my soul. I want to be a person who radiates the light of Christ so that it lights and warms those around me.
