Community Service

In early April we helped with a community food drive for needy school children and their families from several of the area's schools. We’ve done this several times before. The effort is sponsored by the Kirkland Nourishing Network and is held prior to each long school break. Individuals sign up to provide a box of food made up of items on a list. In the past they’ve had people sign up for about 80 boxes of food. This time about 100 boxes were collected. This made it possible to help about 30 families instead of the 20 or so in the past.

The food is collected in the Totem Lake Meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the families come there to pick up the boxes. We help with the collection of the boxes, organizing them by family (names known only to Lynette), and then the very beginning of the distribution.
Lynette, who calls herself "just a PTA mom," has been coordinating this effort for several years. Her parents come from their home about an hour away to help on distribution day. Several other people, like ourselves are now regulars. It's been fun to get to know wonderful people and to be of service.
