More tidbits of wisdom from my old fashioned but still very useful paper planner (I hope some of what I record in the planner is wisdom also - but here I'm referring to the preprinted quotes :).

You could say the same thing about testimonies of Jesus Christ. We can teach our children of Christ, testify of Christ, have family prayer and scripture study, and be an example of a disciple of Christ. But each individual has to develop his/her own relationship with, knowledge of, and testimony of Christ. We can give our children a legacy of faith but each person in the next generation has to consciously accept and act on that legacy of faith.
The Parable of the10 Virgins comes to mind. When they got the news that the Bridegroom (Christ) was coming soon, some of the women were caught without oil in their lamps - and those who were prepared couldn’t give their oil to those who weren’t prepared. That’s because the oil consisted of spiritual preparation. We can’t give our spiritual preparation to someone else. We have to do it ourselves, one drop at a time through scripture study, prayer, service, and other actions that bring us closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as we make their thoughts and actions our thoughts and actions. We can’t do it for someone else but we certainly can be encouraging to others as they do their own spiritual preparations and fill their lamps.

I grew up in a home with books and certainly ascribe to this sentiment. We created a home with books for ourselves, our children and now grandchildren. Winnowing our book collection when we moved across country was very painful. The only thing that made it bearable was that quite a few younger people took our books and used them to create their libraries.
