Grandchildren - Candles & Cars

One of our granddaughters wanted to try her hand at making candles
We made a clear candle and soy wax candles -
ivory with vanilla scent and purple with lavender scent

The finished product burns nicely and smells wonderful!

When we asked our grandson what sort of adventure we could have with him, he suggested going to LeMay – America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, next to the Tacoma Dome. Great suggestion. We've seen this very distinctive building on our way to and from the airport.

From the museum website: LeMay – America’s Car Museum (ACM) spotlights America’s love affair with the automobile.  Featuring a nine-acre campus – with a four-story museum as the centerpiece – ACM, ... is one of the world’s largest auto museums and attractions when it opened in June 2012. ACM is designed to preserve history and celebrate the world’s automotive culture.  The spacious facility houses up to 350 cars, trucks and motorcycles from private owners, corporations, and the LeMay collection, which amassed a Guinness Book record of more than 3,500 vehicles in the mid-‘90s. “Everybody remembers their first car, family driving vacations, a sports car they fell in love with as a teenager,” says ACM CEO David Madeira. “Personal experiences with cars are at the heart of the American experience, and we’re going to showcase more than a century of automotive lifestyle and history as well as the future of transportation.”

Joe remembers riding in the rumble seat in his Grandmother Neely's car. If you look closely at the blue car, you can see the lines in front of the trunk. This is where you opened the rumble seat.

These pictures illustrate why a trunk is called a "trunk."
In the early days, an actual trunk was tied onto the back of the car.

It was interesting, and a bit mind-blowing, to look at the cars from my childhood. Many of them looked ancient! We talked about what cars would look like by the time our grandson was taking his grandchildren around an automobile museum.

Only a small part of the LeMay collection is at this facility. The rest are at Marymount, not far from the Tacoma museum. That's a tour for another day

Outside the museum - There's nothing like the sight and feeling of the American flag waving in front of blue sky and white, puffy clouds.
