Salt Lake City Family & Sights

In April we drove to Salt Lake City to visit Michael Todd and his daughters.
We also attended the annual meeting for the Association for Mormon Letters. The conference was held on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The campus has beautiful vistas. Click on a picture for a larger image & to tab through all the images in the post.

There was a Noni Juice convention in town - 5,000 people from all over the world

After years of construction City Creek Center has opened in downtown Salt Lake City. From the website: "City Creek Center is the retail centerpiece of one of the nation's largest mixed-use downtown redevelopment projects. This unique shopping environment features a retractable glass roof, a creek that runs through the property, a pedestrian skybridge and more. ... 90 stores and restaurants ... in a casual, pedestrian-friendly environment."

Music and the Spoken Word was amazing, as always. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square performed beautifully. I have to believe that music is a beautiful part of life on the other side - just at it is here on earth.
This shows the choir and "stage" after "Music and the Spoken Word." A special ceremony was held for the 20+ people who were retiring from the choir. Retirement from this volunteer service is mandatory after 20 years or age 60.
Thomas Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in the retirement program. President Monson is the first man to the right of the podium. Mack Wilberg, music director, is the next seated person.

The gardens on Temple Square are always beautiful. According to a Temple Square website. "World-renowned gardens surround the 35 acres of the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These gardens include 250 flower beds, more than 165,000 bedding plants, and over 700 varieties of plants from all over the world. The gardens are redesigned every six months and replanted by hundreds of volunteers."
Forget-me-nots and bleeding hearts were part of my gardens on North Street.

Red bud trees will always remind me of childhood and our home on Oak Street.
