The Stockings Are Hung

The stockings are hung. Gram, Mom's mother, knit stockings for the Holton children.  They start showing up in photos in the early 1950s. Mine is on the right in this picture. When Joe and I married, Mom knit similar stockings for Michael, David, and Joe. Joe's is in the middle. Some Christmases we write our gifts to Jesus and put them in the white stocking.
This card from a dear friend says it beautifully -
Christmas blessings...
the joy of family,
the treasure of friends,
the miracle of God's love

The holly candle holders were Mom's. Dad told me she asked him to order them from a catalog for her last Christmas - only none of us knew it would be her last Christmas. I bought the holly table runner the next Christmas to match Mom's candleholders (there's a third holder not shown here). The Nativity was given to each woman who attended Relief Society's Christmas program a few weeks ago.
Written on the stand is

Believe
As we seek Christ, as we find Him, as we follow Him,
we shall have the Christmas spirit, not for one fleeting
day each year, but as a companion always. Thomas S. Monson
Joe felt our little Christmas display needed something more.
He added this container he bought at Uwajimaya, a Japanese grocery store.
We love receiving Christmas cards from family & friends.
One of our grandchildren gave the Christmas mouse to Joe years ago when she discovered that Grandpa liked singing toys. It sings "We wish you a Merry Christmas."

Our Christmas tree
Joe liked to keep the Christmas tree up for a month or more past Christmas - not the safest thing to do. So we purchased a full size artificial tree and kept it up. We traveled several years and didn't put up the big tree. Then we purchased this tree so Joe could have a year round Christmas tree. We change the decorations with the season. When we moved, we gave away our big artificial tree.
