Discipleship involves action. The scriptures are full of action words - full of counsel to "do." Praying, studying, pondering, obeying, serving, …. Actions give us experiences that hopefully lead to wisdom. Blessings come as we go and do. The following scriptures and talks came to my mind as I’ve been thinking about this concept lately.
Sometimes we find ourselves waiting on a figurative “Road to Damascus” for some grand event to take place. We “sit” and wait instead of traveling the road with the light and knowledge we already have.
“… let us not wait too long on our road to Damascus. Instead, let us courageously move forward in faith, hope, and charity, and we will be blessed with the light we are all seeking upon the path of true discipleship.” Dieter Uchtdorf
“… spiritual light rarely comes to those who merely sit in darkness waiting for someone to flip a switch. It takes an act of faith to open our eyes to the Light of Christ.” Dieter Uchtdorf
The act of faith involves movement. I like the following.
Boyd Packer did not see how it was possible to do what he’d been asked to do. He was given the following advice by Harold B. Lee. “The trouble with you is you want to see the end from the beginning.” I replied that I would like to see at least a step or two ahead. Then came the lesson of a lifetime: “You must learn to walk to the edge of the light, and then a few steps into the darkness; then the light will appear and show the way before you.” source
“… I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them. 1Nephi 3:7
