Whidbey Island Adventure

Water - Islands - Ferries - Charming Towns
There are many places close by for adventuring

Recently we decided to explore Whidbey Island. We boarded the ferry at Mukilteo.  It cost $8+ for the two of us (and the car) at senior rates - one way ticket. On the ferry we were in the middle row with a huge TV station van on one side and a medium size school bus on the other side. The trip took about 20 minutes. The ferry runs every half hour so you’d never have to wait very long for a ride.

There were cars on the deck above us and below us.
According to the state’s website the ferries can hold from 34 to 202 cars.
I don’t know how many cars were on our ferry, but it was quite a few.

We disembarked at Clinton and drove to Langley for lunch

We drove through a number of small communities and
checked out the downtowns and beaches.

It was dark by the time we got to the northern end of the island. So we couldn’t see Deception Pass and all the beauty at that end of the island. When Joe was in the Navy and stationed in Alaska, he flew in and out of the Naval Air Station which is on the northern end of Whidbey Island.

Riding Washington's ferries - It's interesting to learn the ins and outs of ferry riding. Approaching each terminal, you have to watch for lanes marked just for ferry traffic. Once you buy a ticket, then you line up in numbered lanes that make it possible for workers to load several lanes of traffic at once. Then the whole process is reversed as you disembark.
