4th of July always brings to mind
Kate Smith singing "God Bless America"
Irving Berlin wrote the song in 1918 while serving in the Army. It wasn't included in the show for which it was written and was stored in a trunk. In 1938 Kate Smith was looking for a song to sing on her radio show to commemorate the end of World War I. Berlin remembered the composition he had written previously, reworked it a bit and presented it to Kate Smith. "The song tapped into the national psyche, offering a kind of collective prayer for the unease over impending war." Click here and here for more.
