Community Service

School personnel, parents, church and community groups work together to collect food to help families during long school breaks.
The collection and distribution center was at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Totem Lake area of Kirkland. Most of the recipient families attend the nearby elementary school.

Individuals in the community used a shopping list to know which items to donate. We helped accept the donations, organize them, and then helped distribute the boxes to the families.
The pink papers on the wall indicate the number of adults and children in each family. That's used to determine how many boxes are given to each family. We helped with this at Thanksgiving also. At Thanksgiving one of the school counselors bought a hundred chicken wings for the Hmong families. Evidently they prefer chicken wings over turkey.

We met many wonderful people at Thanksgiving and again this week.
