Snow Geese

Snow geese leave Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean off the coast of Russia to spend the winter on North America's West Coast. Up to 80,000 of those geese stay on Fir Island in the Sakgit Valley, about an hour north of Kirkland. This article says the birds make the trip from Russia to the Skagit Valley in a week or less. That includes stops in Alaska and Siberia.
On a recent trip to Fir Island we saw a field full of snow geese.

A glorious sight to behold
The birds were in a field on the north side of the road.
Below - Here's where the birds are "supposed" to be - on the south side of the road in the 225 acre Fir Island Farms Reserve Unit. Guess they didn't get the memo. It's been relatively void of birds both times we've stopped there.
