Forgetting and Remembering

How is it that ye have forgotten that ye have seen an angel of the Lord? ... how is it that ye have forgotten what great things the Lord hath done for us, in delivering us out of the ...  Yea, and how is it that ye have forgotten that the Lord is able to do all things according to his will, for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise faith in him?" 1 Neph 7: 10-12

For some reason it's often easier to forget God and His involvement in our lives than it is to remember Him and all He's done for us.

Learning to see God's hand in our lives requires paying attention. I like the scripture, Be still and know that I am God. I try to remember to record those "knowing" times in my journal so I can be a better rememberer.

During this time of stillness during the pandemic, perhaps we can pay closer attention and realize that God is here. He does know and love each of us individually.

Good Advice

And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man [or woman] should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, ... therefore, all things must be done in order. Mosiah 4: 27

This has long been one of my favorite scriptures. It's a good reminder of  how to approach my very long todo list. Wisdom, order, and diligence. BUT, and this is where I need the reminder - I need to be conscious of my pace. I need to keep up some speed, but I also need to be mindful of my strength.

Community Food Drive

Hopelink, our community's largest food bank, had a food drive. They asked for very specific items. Cars were lined up for blocks to go through the drop off area. Kirkland's police were there along with other volunteers to take items out of the cars and sort them into bins. People want to help.

Pattern for Life

"Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all." Mosiah 5: 15

Steadfast, immovable, always abounding in good works - all centered on Christ and His gospel and example. What a great pattern for my life.

Connections

You never know what treasures are waiting to be found in the piles of family documents
This small piece of paper has a link between Celia Cathcart Holton, Roy Burkhart, Hazel Burkhart Floyd, my grandfather Harry Edmond Floyd, Joe, and his grandfather Joseph Clinton Todd. That's a lot of jumping around in time and across different family lines.
Celia collected quotes and used them in the many talks and Sunday School lessons she gave. She typed this story that has interesting family connections.

A friend met John Quincy Adams one time and said, "Good morning, how are you?" The old man's eyes began to twinkle and then he spoke slowly. His words have become. classic. "John Quincy Adams himself is very well, thank you, but the house he lives in is sadly delapidated [sic]. It is tottering on its foundation. The walls are badly shattered and the roof is worn. The building trembles with every wind, and I think John Quincy Adams will move out of it one of these days. But he, himself, is very well."

When this paragraph was read over the radio by Dr. Burkhart, of Columbus, Ohio, one of his hearers was an old lady who wrote in to him: "This is an old lady who is writing you, or at least the house I live in is eighty two years old. Considing [sic] its age, I think the house is in fairly good repair, though I don't think it looks quite as good as it did fifty years ago. I have neglected to keep it painted, as so many of the women of this generation do. To tell the truth, I have been spending my time on interior decorating. The windows I look out of are fairly clear, and I am glad to tell you I have a reliable tenant in the upper story."
****************************
Dr. Burkhart is Roy Burkhart, well-known pastor of First Community Church in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Joe and Jane attended First Community shortly after their marriage. Joe's grandfather, Joseph Clinton Todd and Roy Burkhart were both involved in religious education and were acquaintances. Roy Burkhart's wife was Hazel Shover Burkhart. After Roy died, Hazel met Harry Edmond Floyd at the First Community Village in Upper Arlington. They were married in the mid1960s. Later I married Joe who was linked to Roy Burkart through his grandfather Joseph Clinton Todd.

It is indeed a small world. We are all connected.

That Nudge

I like the way my Apple Watch nudges me when there's a text, phone call, or other alert. Most of the time I notice the nudge, but not always.

The other day I realized this is similar to the way the Spirit nudges me. Sometimes I'm paying attention and sometimes I'm not. Just because I didn't notice it, doesn't mean the Spirit wasn't trying to communicate with me.
