Do you ever feel there’s so much going on in your life that you can’t take on one more thing? I like Sharon Eubank’s perspective.*
Sharon Eubank already had a full life as director of LDS Charities, the humanitarian aid organization for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Then she was asked to serve as a counselor in the church’s world-wide women’s organization, Relief Society (and keep her job with LDS Charities). Here are some of her thoughts about dealing with one more thing, one more VERY BIG thing.
“… she couldn’t figure out how logistically she would be able to do her job and take care of her family and serve in her calling without “killing some part of her own spirit.” And she “was already really tired.”
About this time Sharon Eubank found notes she’d made in a Relief Society board meeting six years previously. The counsel came from Julie Beck, who was serving as Relief Society general president.
“When you are with people, remember they are each filled with troubles. Lift them to a higher plane. People come to be lifted. Build. Bring comfort from the Spirit. Don’t bring new programs or duties. People need lifting.
“Remember to keep your own kingdom intact. This is your first stewardship—mother and father, brothers and sisters, children, husband, friends. These are eternal and they are given to you first.
“When you can’t give more, when you’ve gone beyond your ability to give, then sit still. Call on the Holy Ghost and angels to come to you. Be still and get full.”
**********
Lift, build, comfort others.
Take care of those in your immediate stewardship.
Be mindful of how you’re doing.
When feeling overwhelmed “sit still” and call on God and angels. “Be still and get full.”
We’ve had some sit still and call on God and angels moments. The help has come. We are blessed and thankful.
